‘Not up to it’: Based on his observations from the start of the season, Chris Sutton has already given his opinion on one of Celtic’s summer additions.
In charge of the current Celtic team, the former hoops hero acknowledges that Hyunjun Yang is one player he believes is not good enough for Celtic.
According to Sutton (Daily Record), Yang is clearly not yet ready.
“Despite his talent, he still seems a long way from having what it takes to succeed at this level. He looked like someone who had won a raffle to get a game last weekend.”
It seems strange to infer that Yang is suddenly unworthy when Sutton was just a short while earlier expressing his admiration for the South Korean.
Remember that Yang is just 22 years old, has relocated halfway across the globe, and is probably still getting used to life in Glasgow.
Although I acknowledge that Yang’s performances have been incredibly uneven, let’s not act as though his acquisition was done with the intention of using him in a starting lineup this early in his career.
Due to injuries to Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda, Brendan Rodgers was obliged to play Yang when it is more likely that he would have been played sparingly until he was well used to life in Scotland and at Celtic.
I agree that he isn’t good enough to start, but the data also points to the possibility that he could be a very useful impact player off the bench.
And when Maeda and Abada are well, this is what I believe he will become. Yang will learn his craft as a second fiddle to both wingers.
Only then will he be able to be judged, since any claim as of right now that he isn’t talented enough to play for the Celtics is completely unjust and off the mark.
In other reports, following yesterday’s loss, Celtic instructed to sign a 26-year-old Kilmarnock player.
