Rangers submit appeal over Jose Cifuentes red card against Dundee

Jose Cifuentes was given a red card against dundee, and Rangers has appealed the decision in the hopes of getting him back to participate in the Viaplay Cup final.

The Ecaudor midfielder was sent off during the first half of Rangers’ Saturday game at Ibrox for tackling Amadou Bakayoko of Dundee on the halfway line.

After seeing footage of the tackle, match referee Kevin Clancy, who had first issued a yellow card, accepted an invitation from VAR Stevie Kirkland to review his ruling and issued a red card.

This implies that Cifuentes will be unable to compete in Sunday’s Viaplay Cup final versus Aberdeen, which will feature the first trophy competition of the year.

Rangers now anticipate that when the appeal is reviewed by an impartial panel on

Tuesday, they overrule Clancy’s final decision and allow manager Philippe Clement to select Cifuentes in his cup final squad.

Speaking after the game, Clement had said he would review the incident before making a call on an appeal.
